Quality of Japanese Green Melon

Each weights 2kg. Japanese Red Melon are refreshing, with great aroma and fragrance.

A Luxury Delight from the Land of Exquisite Fruits

The deliciousness of Japanese fruits has been gaining attention overseas in recent years, and among them, one that is rising in popularity as a luxury fruit representative, is the Japanese melon.

There are variations with green flesh (green-meat) and others with orange flesh (red-meat).

The Green Meat Melon has yellow to green flesh. It is characterized by a refreshing, cool sweetness and aroma, which may have less richness compared to the Red meat melon.

There is no difference in sweetness between these 2 varieties of melons, and which one is more delicious largely depends on personal preference.

The Art of Growing Japanese Melons with Meticulous Care

Japanese Melon with the net-like pattern are cultivated by leaving only 1.2 melons per vine.
Even when the fruits start to grow, labor-intensive efforts are made to select and keep only the best ones, sometimes narrowing it down to just one melon out of several. The rest are carefully thinned, and a few are meticulously chosen to concentrate all the nutrients into these selected fruits.

This meticulous process involves nurturing the chosen melon with strict control over water, fertilizers, temperature, humidity, and other factors.
The crucial process of thinning the fruits to ensure the best shape and quality prevents nutrient dispersion and ensures that essential nutrients are concentrated in the chosen fruits.

The Secret of Cultivating Net-Patterned Japanese Melons

The "net-like pattern" on Japanese melons wasn't naturally occurring; rather, it was the result of diligent research by farmers on how to grow delicious melons with a desirable net pattern. Originally, melons originated from North Africa and were introduced to Japan as "makwa-uri." Through selective breeding and improvement, various melon varieties were developed.

The amount of water and fertilizer provided is not simply about giving them plenty; deliberately reducing or cutting back on these inputs is also essential. Farmers play a crucial role in adjusting water and fertilizer, which directly affects the formation of the net-like pattern.

The net pattern on melons is formed through a process where the fruit flesh expands due to the gradual enrichment of nutrients during its growth. As the fruit develops, the skin cracks, and a substance called "suberin" is secreted from the inside, filling the cracks and solidifying, thus creating the net-like appearance.

In essence, the net-like pattern is akin to a "scab" that develops because of the farmers' precise application of water and nutrients. Melons with a beautiful net pattern are considered delicious as it indicates their smooth growth. The more uniform the net pattern, the tastier the melon is believed to be. It's not just the high sugar content, but also the moist and succulent texture that contributes to the exceptional flavor experience.
